About Financial District
The Financial District is located in downtown Boston. It does not have any set boundaries but can be found near Chinatown and the Government Center, around Atlantic Avenue.
The district is home to many mutual fund companies, accounting firms and banks. The headquarters of Fidelity Investments, PricewaterhouseCoopers and other firms are based here.
Post Office Square is a private park found in the district and includes a cafe and pagoda.
Exchange Place is only one of the many skyscrapers that dominate the area. One Financial Center and One International Place are some of the tallest buildings in Boston and are used by prestigious law firms and consulting groups. The First National Bank Building has housed various banks since its completion in 1971.
One notable skyscraper is the Custom House Tower, which was built at the beginning of the 20th century and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is now privately owned, with a redesigned 1-acre plaza in the front retaining a historical feel for visitors.
New projects are still underway. The Russia Wharf is a high-rise building that was completed in 2010, and the South Station Tower is another new skyscraper set to begin construction.
